2020-2021 MAPL Board of Directors:

President - Gregory Hackworth, RPL

Greg Hackworth graduated from Western Michigan University in 2002 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications with an emphasis in Broadcasting and Cable Production. After 4 years in Television and Video Production he shifted gears and joined Clayton Energy Company in 2006. Greg is an experienced Title examiner and Abstracter. He also skilled in the areas of Project Management, Due Diligence and Title Curative. He is an Active member of AAPL and is excited about the opportunity to serve on the MAPL Board.

Vice President - William D. Jenness, IV, RPL

A natural communicator and problem solver, Bill has been engaged in all facets of field land work;  including oil and gas lease negotiation and acquisition, document preparation, mineral and surface title research and reporting, title curative and abstracting.

In addition, he has a strong background in negotiation and acquisition of easement, right-of-way, surface use and damage settlement agreements.  Bill’s specialty is complex and difficult landowner negotiations.  He is an employee of Consumers Energy Company as a Right-of-Way Distribution Agent.
In addition to MAPL, he is an active member of the AAPL, MOGA and a graduate of Central Michigan University with experience in sales, banking, information technology and project management.

Secretary - Sara Cunningham, J.D.

Ms. Cunningham handles a broad range of oil and gas matters, including regulatory matters and title work, as well as a diverse litigation practice in oil and gas, construction law, labor and employment law, and business and commercial law.  A significant amount of her time is spent on oil and gas contract review, negotiation and transactional work, litigation, regulatory matters and title work.  She earned her law degree from the Ohio State University College of Law in 2002 and undergrad from Michigan State Univeristy.  She is a member of the Michigan Association of Professional Landmen, and the Michigan Oil and Gas Association among many other organizations.

Treasurer - Cliff Roberts

Cliff is the Land Manager of Muskegon Development Company, an operator and producer of oil and gas wells across the State of Michigan.  Cliff graduated in 2011 from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and immediately started with Muskegon as an Analyst.  His experience includes abstracting, title curative, lease and other contract negotiation, division order analysis, and acquisitions.  Cliff has been an active member of MOGA and MAPL since the beginning of his career, and he is grateful to have the opportunity to serve on the MAPL Board.

Membership Chair - Joe Crowther, RL

Joe has worked professionally as an independent landman in the State of Michigan since 2006, co-founding Great Lakes Land Company, L.L.C. in 2009. Enthusiastically accepting new challenges has been a steppingstone for Joe's professional advancement and versatile abilities. Equipped with a positive attitude, aptitude for problem solving, adaptability, and strong communication skills, Joe has established himself as a dynamic and competent Landman. Joe has been dedicated to practicing land work with the utmost emphasis placed on prompt results, honest and mutually beneficial dealings with the public, and practices in alignment with the code of ethics of the American Association of Professional Landmen. Joe is now humbled to serve on the board of the Michigan Association of Professional Landmen, and is eager to represent our members, organization and the industry to the highest standard of professionalism and fairness.

Immediate Past President- Chris Tooman, CPL

Chris has over 12 years of experience in the energy industry. He is former Land Manager of the Midwest Division and is currently the Director of the Renewables Division at Western Land Services, Inc. Chris has a diverse skillset with experience in lease acquisition, title & abstract research as well as due diligence, curative and operations work in both the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors. Chris is also a member of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association, serving on the Leasing & Land Committee.

Region II AAPL Director- Steven N. Rapanos, CPL

Steve Rapanos has over 15 years of experience in the oil and gas industry and is currently employed as the Vice President of Land & Business Development at Trendwell Energy Corporation.

Steve is currently the Region II Director for the American Association of Professional Landmen and also a member of the Michigan Association of Professional Landmen, having previously served as a Board member.  Steve is also a member of the Michigan Oil & Gas Association, serving on the Leasing & Land Committee, the Legal & Legislative Committee and is a Board member of the Energy Education for Michigan.
